When Should You Begin Planning To Achieve Your Fitness Goals?

With the new year finally upon us, the time is NOW to start planing your fitness goals. Why? Because right now is as good as any time to start. Preparing your mind and body will give you the greatest chance for success in the future. Most people would agree that without an initial written plan for your fitness objectives, you may lose track and fail to accomplish your goals. Here are a few things I recommend you start doing as soon as possible: Write down on a piece of paper what your goal(s) are ( i.e lose weight, gain strength, improve your cardio endurance). This way they are in front of you to look at. Make an appointment with your doctor to schedule a physical if it has been more than 6 months since your last checkup. Get in touch with a local certified personal trainer and schedule a free consultation to discuss in detail what the best courses of action are to achieve your fitness goals. It is important to keep in mind that whatever your goals are you must allow for your body to adapt to changes accordingly. In other words, to build that perfect body it will require time, patience, dedication and a strong committment. So get a pen and paper and start writing your way to a new body! Feel free to call me any time with your questions (732)-618-0849. Best of luck to...

Nutrition Tip #3 – Are Energy Bars a Healthy Choice?

Have you noticed recently the amount of energy bars, such as PowerBars and Clif Bars, out there on the market? There are literally hundreds of different kinds, varieties and brands. I personally do not have a preference on which energy bar maker is better for you or not; however, I can make a few suggestions on what to look for in the ingredients: Find out how many calories in each serving. Usually, depending on what type of bar it is, the total caloric count should be somewhere around 230-240. Anything above that should be carefully looked at. Choose a bar high in protein ( at least 3  grams) and fiber ( more than 3 grams). The fat content should be mostly heart-healthy fats and carbs mostly whole grains with around 10-20 grams of sugar. So if you find something that will come close to what I have described above, you should be fine. If you get bored with energy bars, try these alternatives: Shakes (buy in bulk and save) Nuts (almonds are nutritious) Pre-cooked chicken without the skin. Eat it with whole-wheat...

Nutrition Tip #2 – Are You Really What You Eat?

“You are what you eat.”  Does the age old saying really have any substance? The answer is “YES”. What you put in your body and what you do not has everything to do with how you look and feel. Different foods help your body, and others are nothing but bad for you. Over time, if you continue to use these bad foods, your body will suffer from it and you will eventually pay the consequences. Strength exercise is a great way to stay strong and build those muscles for the future, but without a proper diet and nutrition your body can still be subjected to an array of issues....

Do You Think I Need Personal Training? Well….

If I had a dime every time I heard this question …$$$$$ you got it!  Let me just state for the record, that 95% of the people who have asked me that question knew exactly what the answer was going to be. But, just to be fair to them, I immediately answered their question with a question of my own: “Do you have 5 minutes to spare?” With so much information out there about the benefits of exercise, eating right and a positive attitude I still find it hard to believe that a large majority of the population still does not make the time to incorporate some form of exercise during the day. I think what confuses most people these days is the fact that exercise is simply not taken seriously enough. I strongly believe that if more people took the time to re-educate themselves about the benefits of exercise, we wouldn’t be in the state of crisis we are now in regarding our own health and the well being of our children… you can count on that! Therefore, what advice can I give to anyone who is contemplating the decision to make a commitment to exercise? Give me 5 minutes and I’ll show you what you have been...
